Face the strange, stupid and terrifying

Boldly Go, and then Probably Die of Space Dysentery

Inspired by both classic Sci-Fi TV tropes and misremembered nostalgia for educational games like Oregon Trail, Orion Trail puts you in the captain’s seat of the Indestructible II, flagship of Galaxy Force.

Navigate a randomly generated Star Map and encounter strange, stupid and terrifying situations in this choose-your-own-space-adventure.

You’ll be forced to rely on your senior staffs’ skills, ship’s resources, and ever-dwindling supply of redshirts to see another day.

Responsibilities

Project & Design Director for 6 months, Team of 6 with a bunch of contributors

Project and Design Director

This game is a bunch of my favorite things coming together in one ridiculous place. It was also my first time heading up a project at Schell Games as both PD and DD.

The role was some amalgamation Creative Director, Project Manager, and Lead Designer, meaning my plate was full with a lot of overhead and larger-vision tasks.

Luckily, I had an incredibly talented team that helped bring this strange space baby to life.

Kickstarter & Community Liaison

Working with a team of talented folks, we originally built this as a prototype during a Jam Week at Schell Games.

Once it was clear we had something, I worked with Evan Brown to come up with a plan to launch and run a Kickstarter - which was successfully funded.

During development, I did my best to keep folks appraised of progress and fielded any questions that came our way.

Dumb Space Jokes

Any opportunity I had, I wrote new content for the game.

As time went on, however, my role turned more into “dumb space joke editor” as more folks began contributing encounters and other content to the game.

Ultimately, whatever needed doing got done to the best of my ability.
