Episodic, Crowdsourced Games and Cartoons
Puzzle Clubhouse, where players made the games
Based off of a successful Kickstarter, Puzzle Clubhouse was a place where, with the help of the community, we made monthly(ish) webtoons and games.
Each episode featured images, sounds, ideas and game designs submitted by our community members, and it was up to our team to put it all together into something that (mostly) made sense.
Sadly, with the death of Flash, many of these games aren’t available to play anymore.
Responsibilities
Game Design & Prototypes, Team of 8 for 6 months
Script Writer and Content Wrangler
Working with both the team and the community submissions, I was one of two main designers that was responsible for wrangling the myriad of content and suggestions coming in.
It was a great chance to write goofy premises, silly dialogue and help string it all together on very short timelines.
Game Designer
While we got a lot of great suggestions from the community, it was on us to try and make it hang together as a fun and functional game.
My responsibility varied from episode to episode, but generally speaking I would help create content and levels, as well as general polish.
Gameplay Prototyper
Using Flash, I helped create quick prototypes to prove out concepts submitted by the community members.
As time went on, this became less and less of my focus, but some of the early episodes were based off of gameplay prototypes that I had built.
